The Virginia Association for Parks operates via a partnership model, whereby we both rely on and serve our partners. Acting as the umbrella organization for Friends Groups, VAFP convenes this important network to strengthen collaboration and build capacity. VAFP also partners with like-minded organizations who champion parks and conservation efforts.
Feel like lending a hand? There's plenty to do. Many parks have citizen support organizations, better known as Friends Groups, made up of volunteers who help shore up park projects, programs and management. Many of these groups have formed to advocate for specific state parks. Funds raised onsite by these friends groups - through gift shop sales, special events and other activities - are used for improvements and programs at particular parks. Though not all, many state parks have a Friends Group. Visit the pages below to learn more and consider joining your home state park's Friends Group.
